Laguna Carbonate & General Hardness Test Kit

Laguna Carbonate & General Hardness Test Kit

Correct hardness is essential for plant growth and stable pH. General hardness affects biological functions in fish. Carbonate hardness is a factor in efficient biological filtration. This is a liquid titration test. Kit includes: 1 bottle of carbonate hardness reagent (15ml), 1 bottle of general hardness reagent (10ml), 1 glass test tube with cap, 1 pipette, 1 lab base, 1 instruction booklet.

Instructions:
For general hardness: Take a sample of the water to be tested with the pipette. Use it to fill a clean test tube to the 5ml line.Add 1 drop of GH reagent into the test tube. Insert cap, hold in place with finger and shake well to mix. A pink color should result. If the color of the mixture changes to blue after adding the one drop, the hardness measure is below 20 mg/l (ppm). If the color did not change to blue, continue to add one drop at a time, shaking well after each addition. Count the drops and stop adding drops when color changes from pink to blue.Multiply the number of drops by 20 to determine the general hardness in mg/l (ppm) as calcium carbonate.
For the carbonate hardness test:Take a sample of the water to be tested with the pipette. Use it to fill a clean test tube to the 5ml line.Add 1 drop of KH reagent into the test tube. Insert cap, hold in place with finger and shake well to mix. A blue color should result. If the color of the mixture changes to yellow after adding the one drop, the carbonate hardness measure is below 10 mg/l (ppm). If the color did not change to yellow, continue to add one drop at a time, shaking well after each addition. Count the drops and stop adding drops when color changes from blue to yellow/lime color.Multiply the number of drops by 10 to determine the carbonate hardness in mg/l (ppm) as calcium carbonate.
