January Etiquette Winter Bird Care For Parrots in Canada

Posted Friday; December 29, 2017 2pm CST

It's okay to travel with your bird for grooming rather than risking the bird not being groomed in the winter.

Warm up the car, put bird in carrier and wrap carrier with warm towel or blanket.
DO NOT include water while traveling.

Access to good quality light during the winter.
There are many full spectrum bulbs on the market.
Educate yourself on the type of bulb you have purchased and we are finding here at Exotic Wings the bulb should be no more than 24 inches above the bird and should only be on for no more than 4 hours per day. Any longer you could be in for more problems putting your bird into breeding mode.

Thermo perch is a good way to add warmth to a cage. Great for older birds with arthritis and for homes that temps are kept cooler.

Your house temperature where the bird is acclimatized can be kept as low are 65 degrees F. or 18 degrees C. Any lower temperatures you run the risk of egg binding in female birds.

Placement of Cage.
