Talking Ability: Rather Unlikely
Notes: Gentle birds, turquoisine parakeets are unlikely to bite. They can be housed with other small birds, such as finches, but should not be housed with other Neophema species as they may be aggressive.
Because of their gentle nature, they make good pets for families with children.
Breeding Notes: Regularly achieved and not difficult; pairs should be isolated when breeding to avoid aggression; several pairs can only breed together in very large aviary; then remove young after leaving nest; breeding begins mostly in April; incubation 18 to 19 days; female only leaves nestbox to defecate; fledging period 4 to 5 weeks; young independent after 3 weeks; then separate from parents as often two or three breedings per year; young usually shy and flighty after leaving nest; often fly in alarm against mesh and injure themselves; covering mesh with cloth or leafy branches suggested.
