Trainability: The Green Wing Macaw is a playful bird and is very trainable.
Length: 90 cm (35.5 ins)
Average Lifespan: 80 years
Average Weight: 1250 - 1550 g
Diet: Pellets, Fruits and Veggies
Housing: 5 x 5 x 8 feet
Loudness: The Green Wing Macaw has a voice that matches his large size. This can be a noisy parrot, and this must be taken into account before purchase.
Talking Ability: Green Wings are capable of speaking though generally not as well as African Greys or Amazons parrots.
Notes: These birds are much calmer than their Blue and Gold cousins, but as babies they enjoy a much high activity level. They are usually more affectionate, and do require a large amount of time like the other macaws. Most people agree that these macaws are very demanding of attention and space, so they definitely aren't for everyone.
These birds have been vaccinated for the polyoma virus. It is crucial for young birds to be protected as they have little to no immune system for their first year of life. Just as people, cats, dogs are vaccinated, we use vaccines to substantially decrease the incidence of disease in birds. By doing this we have developed a positive reputation that separates us from the "birdie mills" that do not aspire to the same standards. We have a vet on the premises bi-weekly that administer this vaccine and monitors our babies and flock.
