Silver White Rump Diamond Dove - Diamond Geopelia Cuneata Bird

Silver White Rump Diamond Dove Diamond

Notable traits of the Silver White Rump Diamond Dove Bird: Diamond (Geopelia Cuneata)
Latin Name: Geopelia Cuneata
Common Name: Silver White Rump Diamond Dove
Description: Male Diamond Doves have a light blue-grey head, neck and breast. The bill is dark grey and the abdomen is cream coloured, while the back and tail are brownish-grey. The females are similar to the males except that their feathers are mostly brown-grey. Their legs and feet are pink.
As juveniles, their bills are a light grey, their irises and eye-rings are fawn coloured, their feet, legs and breasts are grey, and their wings are devoid of spots.
Gender Determination: The genders look similar except the females eye ring is less vivid and has more of a brown colour to the plumage
Trainability: Can be trained as pets and are gentle and sweet if tamed
Length: Around 20 cm
Average Lifespan: 15 years
Average Weight: 30 grams
Song: Cooing
Diet: Seed, Pellets, Grit, Vitamin Supplement
Housing: If kept as single pets, cage should be a minimum of 13 x 15 x 17 inches, with bars a maximum of half an inch apart
Loudness: Generally quiet birds
Notes: The cage or enclosure should not have a grated floor, as they spend a lot of time walking about the bottom of the cage. Ideally, the cage or enclosure should provide as much walking space as possible.
They should be given grit, as unlike parrots, they swallow seeds whole. The grits help them digest.
Diamond doves can make sweet pets. If tamed, their owner should give them as much attention as one would give a tamed pet parrot. If unsure of whether one would have the time to invest in taming, diamond doves are better off in pairs or in groups.
Breeding Notes: Diamond doves of both genders have white spots and black edges on their wings, and orange eyes with red eye-rings. The thickness of their eye rings and the color of their wing feathers are an easy way to determine gender. Males have a 2-3mm thick eye ring and silver-grey wing feathers whereas females have a 1mm thick eye ring and brown-grey wing feathers.
