All of our baby parrots and parakeets are parent raised for the first three to four weeks of their life. This practice helps to ensure that a strong immune & gut flora system develops.
At three weeks old the babies are pulled from the nest and we begin to be handfed and socialize. At five weeks old, parrots are vaccinated against the Polyomavirus, and receive a booster shot at seven weeks old. The Polyomavirus infection often reveals sever liver damage, rapid onset of depression, delayed crop emptying, regurgitation, and bleeding under the skin. There is no cure for Polymavirus, therefore the virus is controlled by preventing infections through the use of vaccine. Each bird receives an original certificate of vaccination filled out and signed by our licensed veterinarian. Vaccinating the baby parrots is another step towards giving them the best possible start in life.
Through the weaning process, the birds are introduced to a variety of pellets, seed, fruits, vegetables, rice, and pasta. They start to chose favorite types of food, explore, and begin to develop personalities. We encourage new bird owners to join us in this stage of growth. The opportunity to learn and grow together is essential for a bonded lasting friendship for many years to come.
All birds are abundance weaned and are eating fully on there own before they can go to there new home.
